Durable Pump Construction

Pro Series S3 pumps use cast-iron and stainless-steel construction. They are water-cooled, so there is no cooling oil inside the motor housing. Upper and lower sealed ball bearings help the pump operate quietly, while stainless-steel fasteners and multiple shaft seals are designed for long service life. The pumps are also thermally protected and rated for continuous duty.

Energy-Efficient PSC Motor

The permanent split capacitor motor is designed to move water while drawing fewer amps than many traditional sump pump motors. Lower electrical demand matters when a pump runs frequently during spring thaw or a long rain event.

Contractor-Installed Warranty

Glentronics lists a five-year warranty for Pro Series S3033 and S3050 pumps when they are purchased from and installed by a contractor. The manufacturer lists a three-year warranty when those pumps are not contractor-installed.

A Dual Float Switch Adds Another Level of Protection

A basic sump pump often depends on one float switch. If that switch sticks, becomes obstructed or fails, the pump may not start even if the motor is still good.

Compatible Pro Series dual-float controls use two micro reed-activated floats for added reliability. The floats are protected by a cage with a solid top that helps keep out sand and dirt. The vented, curved bottom is designed to reduce debris buildup beneath the floats. The activation height can also be adjusted to fit the sump pit.

The pump and switch are separate components. That allows the pump capacity and control features to be selected for the actual installation instead of forcing every home into the same package.

Controller Options That Can Test and Monitor the Pump

Pro Series pumps can be paired with different control levels. Available features depend on the controller selected for the installation.

The deluxe controller can warn when it detects an AC power failure or a pump or float problem. With a compatible Pro Series CONNECT Wi-Fi module, the system can also send text, email or app notifications. Remote alerts are an optional upgrade and require compatible equipment and a working internet connection.

These controls do not make the primary pump operate during a power outage. A battery backup sump pump is required if the system needs to keep pumping when utility power is unavailable.

How We Choose the Right Replacement Pump

Sump pump sizing should account for the entire system. Before recommending a replacement, we consider:

• How quickly water enters the sump pit during heavy rain or snowmelt

• The vertical distance the pump must lift the water

• The length, diameter and condition of the discharge pipe

• Restrictions caused by fittings, check valves or a partially blocked line

• The size and shape of the sump basin

• Whether the basement is finished or contains equipment that could be damaged by water

• Whether battery backup or remote monitoring is needed

Installing a higher-horsepower pump without checking the discharge system may not solve the problem. It can also lead to short cycling if the pit is too small or the switch is set incorrectly.

Our Sump Pump Replacement Process

1. Inspect the Existing System

We check the pump, float, sump basin, check valve, discharge pipe and power source. This helps determine whether the pump has failed or whether another part of the system is causing the problem.

2. Select the Pump and Controls

We recommend a pump based on required capacity and the existing piping. We also explain the available float, controller, alarm and backup options.

3. Remove and Replace the Pump

The old pump is disconnected and removed. The new pump is positioned so the float can move freely, then connected to the discharge system. Needed changes to the check valve or nearby discharge piping are discussed before additional work is completed.

4. Test the Complete System

We fill or activate the pit, confirm that the pump starts and stops correctly, check the piping and fittings for leaks, and verify any installed alarm or controller features.
